Years of Impact

Despite government efforts under the National Care Reform Strategy (2022–2032) to move toward family and community-based care, most institutions lack structured reintegration or transition plans, leaving children vulnerable to prolonged separation and developmental setbacks. As such JACE for Children International through our strategic activities and in collaboration with the International, National and Local Governments seeks to sustainably address some of the aforementioned challenges so as support children at risk to live up to their full potential.

The aforementioned challenges cut across all counties where JACE operates including Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Machakos, Kakamega, Kitui and Embu. Premised on the above, the limited coordination among service providers and weak community-based support services hinder sustainable transitions and efforts to safeguard and protect children. Families often struggle with economic instability, which reduces their ability to safely receive back their children, thereby creating a cycle of dependency on institutional care. Without interventions that address sustainable child reintegration, organisation based systems strengthening, building the family’s capacity to provide a stable, supportive environment including access to employment or income-generating opportunities, the shift toward family and community -centred care remains incomplete.

JACE for Children International seeks to address this gap by promoting a holistic reintegration model that prioritizes family- and community-based care. Through capacity building, psychosocial support, and collaboration with government and civil society, JACE strengthens families to prevent unnecessary separation and facilitates the safe reintegration of children. By supporting both children and the economic resilience of their families, JACE aims to transform Kenya’s child protection system from institutionalization toward sustainable, family-centred care, ensuring that every child belongs, thrives, and contributes meaningfully to society.
